Joshua Safran grew up mostly off the grid in rural Washington State. He and his mother lived in a variety of habitats including school buses, tree stumps, one-room cabins, and an agricultural commune. Joshua did his best to rebel - embracing the One G-d of Moses and Israel and becoming an attorney. After graduating from Boalt Hall, UC Berkeley's School of Law in 2001, Joshua worked first as an Associate and then as Counsel at Bingham McCutchen LLP, went on to found the Safran Law Group, and now serves as Deputy Port Attorney for the Port of Oakland. Since 2003, Joshua has represented an unlawfully incarcerated survivor of domestic violence who participated in the killing of her batterer. Joshua is a father and husband and hopes to become more of a writer.
