  • @Lyzyak Sorry for misprint, for sure I meant to say PS90, not NK90 :)

  • @Sacto1654 There have been some almost complete researches and tests on replacing NK-86 with other engines (probably GE or P&W, I don't remember by now, but for sure - not NK-90). If my memory serves me right, it was in early 90s. However, for some bureaucratic reasons and pursuits for easy profit (bonuses, awards, etc...), Iliushin's bureau had more to gain from bringing the so-called "new" IL-96 into series than fitting il-86 with good engines and new avionics.

  • @Lyzyak I think the Il-86 would still be operational had they been able to swap out the NK-86 engines for PS90 engines--for one thing, it would still be legal to fly into the EU with one! :-)

  • The only drawback Il-86's really had (I wish I could say "has", but 86's are all gone by now) were its weak NK-86 engines. Being a retired Il-86 captain, I can recall lots of late takeoffs "from last slabs" I've made during my career. This plane is unbeatedly reliable...

  • oooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my goooooooooooooooooosh !!!! wowowowowoww ! that`s like St. Martin !

  • Ovo ko u Gibraltaru, put prolazi maltene kroz aerodrom. xD

  • @Fasulichenko As a public service to the flying public or anyone who boards a russian IL-86 I have composed this short prayer: Oh Lord, after that terrifying takeoff, I have come to realize I am in great danger!! Oh Creator and Holy God of Heaven, save me from a fiery death when the pilots try to land this thing at our destination!! I should have known something was wrong when all the fire trucks were standing by on our departure! Save me Lord!!!! amen.

  • My dear Fasulichenko: Any aircraft that can barely get airborne in 2500 meters is an underpowered aircraft. As anyone can clearly see, this copy of your beloved IL-86 is unable to clear a 20 meter obstacle, a tree for instance, after using the entire length of the runway. Thus, it is easy to conclude, nationalism notwithstanding, that the IL-86 can only be flown in to a limited number of airports, those with 2500 meters or longer runways, and no terrain obstacles. A true hunk-o-junk!!

  • @gonetoworkbbackin5mi "The Il-86 is seen as one of the world's safest airliners; only one accident involving fatalities had taken place by 2008. A 2006 ICAO paper stated: 'There were no fatal accidents in passenger-carrying operations involving a wide-body IL-86, for all periods of operation.' Your nationalism exceeds your knowledge, but I'm sure that kinda makes you proud.

  • @haustan123 Tivat, Montenegro...sadly the IL's are gone
