Getting Things Gnome! is an organizer for the GNOME desktop environment.

GTG focuses on usability and ease of use. Its main objective is to provide a simple, powerful and flexible organization tool to the GNOME desktop environment.

Recently 6wunderkids ported wunderlist to linux. This may be a better solution for linux, because you can synchronize tasks between your phone, if you have an android or iphone device, as well as windows or Macintosh machines if you have them.

If I am correct, but I'm not a 100% sure, wunderlist is an open source application as well, because I think I saw their linux version on github or sourceforge or something.

The downside is you don't have gnome integration or the other plugins.
