I agree with literary writer. I love songs about unrequited love.

This song, along with Under the Influence and Romantic Voyage are some of her best songs yet. I thank God just for having the people we do that make beautiful music that shows they are human as well.

My friend worked at Motown Records. I remember her sending me the uncut version of this and many other songs before they were released.
I use to be so crazy about this song. I played it to death. :-)
What is remarkable about this work is how soft and fragile a human being can be. The song is poetry, yet complex, and it recalls those heady days of youth when idealism was replaced by the cold and calculated reality of life. Who among us has not felt driven to the very edge, ready to fall over or draw back with a renewed sense of hope? This song captures both the loss and gain, the reluctant acceptance of dreams which have faded like the spring and beauty of youth. It hits home. Beautiful work.
