Baxter, the worlds best and oldest working therapy dog, 19 years and 6 months, eased peacefully from his life on Friday, October 16th, 2009. He now belongs to the ages.

I think it is fair to claim that at this time Baxter has become the most beloved and well know dog on the planet. His web site www.momentswithbaxter.com has been visited over 700,000 times.

A Facebook friend in Sweden created a Facebook Baxter Bussey Fan Club that has quickly grown to over 1,000 members. We have received a floodgate of condolences from people around the world, including 2,000+ emails, with some of the sweetest messages of how Baxter profoundly touched hearts, stimulated therapy dog programs, and motivated people to volunteer.

Its a fitting tribute to Baxters legacy, that on October 18, two days after his death, his book, Moments With Baxter, was declared the winner of the prestigious USA Book News National Best Books Award 2009 for the category, Animals/Pets: Novelty.

ALL proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to charity.
