Woodslight, how come you left that part out of your "story" where you were wandering the club that night with your johnson stuck through a map of New Haven asking all the young girls, "can you help me find Dixwell Avenue?" Funny you should omit that part of the evening, something tells me you were not really there that night, but if you want to make more shite up go right ahead
I was there. The sign on the reader board outside of Toads said "KC101 Dance Party," and the price to get in was exactly three dollars. A musician friend had heard from his manager that they were going to play a birthday party for a concert promoter.
The Bouncer made us wait acroos the street until the doors opened. The pay phones were all wrapped up in duct tape so nobody would call the press. The show was on the purple page of the USA today next morning. This show ROCKED. Ed Kelly.
I was managing the David's Cookies around the corner and our back entrance and Toad's back door were facing each other. I could see police on our roof watching the alley in the afternoon and it was actually one of our homeless regulars who got the lowdown for me. I walked around the corner and there was a roadie with an ancient Stones tour jacket and all he said to me was that I should really check out the R&B band playing that night. Short set, but killer experience.
We were on the Keith side. Te opening band was the Sons of Bob. The lead singer was drunk and tried to get me thrown out. He didn't and that was the best $3.00 cover I ever spent.
I was there that fateful night, they charged me something like $3.78 for cover, the warm up band lead singer announced to everyone in attendance that "Elvis is alive". Had no voice left when I left that night. Me and my (now) wife were 3 feet away from where Ronny Wood would have played, getting crushed by the masses, decided that 10th row center (back of the bar by the stairways leading down to the facilities) wasn't at all that terrible either. I enjoyed that audio- think I heard my voice too
