This used to be somewhat true. Actually, nobles and even the Prince of Danemark were in the Legion. Today, petty criminals can join but hard-core criminals and Rambo wannabes are turned away. Excessive discipline is also not what it used to be.

This American doesn't know much about the French Foreign Legion. I enjoyed the video very much. The common perception from the movies is that these guys were a bunch of misfits but I am certain that that is wrong.
