This video was produced for WNET Channel 13 and City Limits magazine about the problem of heroin in the suburbs. We went to Suffolk County on Long Island, NY and talked to experts and recovering addicts about how easy it was to score smack and how many kids move from prescription meds stolen from their parents' medicine cabinets to heroin.

  • Been an alcoholic, addict and worked as a substance abuse counselor. None of this matters. I realize that sounds nihilistic but it is simple and true. No one will stop using until they are ready to stop using. No amount of cajoling, education, films, peer encouragement or discouragement.............nothing will stop the alcoholic or addict from using unless the person has reached a point {for whatever reason} that he or she is "ready" to stop. Everything else is just talk. Meaningless.

There is truth in what you say but it is a fatalist attitude.

The person has to decide to stop but we have to encourage them none the less.

  • Like I think starting with the needle is best cuz you get hooked the fastest and can get it over with fastest by shooting an overdose.
