Chef - and restauranteur, caterer, food retailer, author - Mark McEwan exudes confidence and balances casual with sophisticated in a charming, approachable personality. The HEAT cameras followed him through his routine with season one and two focused on catering events and season three on building a high-end food store.
In this episode from the second season, Chef McEwan has to serve 1000 people a three course meal at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls. This clip includes most of the first act, to set it up, and most of the third act, to see it play out. As you can imagine, serving restaurant-quality food to that many people challenges Chef and the viewer to keep up!
I cut the original pilot for the series and most of the episodes in its three-season run. It was a fun challenge because each episode was more documentary than formatted television. Even though each show revolved around a catering event, it required a careful review of all the material, then a plan of action to turn it into a compelling half-hour. The third season was even looser, because we left the catering format behind turn the cameras on his new grocery venture. The third season premiered in April, 2010, on Food Network Canada.
