You'll have to understand that battles lasted for days if not weeks sometimes.
For example, on D-Day they first needed to get the men across the channel, then the day before they send paratroopers to neutralize AA for bombers that destroyed reinforced positions and Anti-Ship cannons so the ships could fire at the coast before even sending the soldiers in to capture everything
(which takes days to do so)

What was the rate of fire with these? It seems like a fight would take a long time.

@RogueAshaman I think for a well-trained crew during WWII, twice a minute per gun was the rate of fire, so 18 rounds a minute from the 9 sixteen-inchers in total per ship.

My Dad was on this ship during the Korean War. His 83rd birthday is tomorrow :)
