A Year 6 pupil at Yarm School has fulfilled every schoolboy's dream -- to demolish his school!
The old mathematics classrooms, dining hall, kitchen, first aid room and reception at Yarm School need to be demolished to make way for the stunning new facilities.
Earlier in the term the school held a lottery for parents to enter to win the chance for their child to start the demolition process. The winner, Jack Flannery, aged 12, and two runners-up, Freya Gittens, aged 11 and Thomas Dearlove, aged 14, met the newly appointed contractors, Miller, for a special lunch and received their own named visibility jacket, hat and steel toe capped boots.
our building project get underway and can't wait to move into our new facilities."
The demolition marks the start of the main phase of an exciting and ambitious redevelopment project for the Senior School sites. The old mathematics classrooms and dining hall will be demolished to make room for a superb riverside performing arts centre at the Senior School which will include a 750 seat auditorium, a separate galleried 120 capacity teaching theatre, a dance studio and music performance suite, all accessed through an atrium with catering facilities leading outside to decking enjoying wonderful river views. There will be brand new departments for English and Modern Languages as well as new changing rooms and a specialist teaching facility for sports studies.
Miller Construction (UK) Ltd was appointed for the main phase of the redevelopment project at Yarm School.
