One would expect that he'd have known this, at the time, recent alteration in the rules, considering that he was the particular one who always tempted them, seemingly next-to-carelessly. Then again, maybe he didn't realize this at that particular point in time.
Or, maybe he wasn't expecting a penalty against based on his verbiage to that umpire, and/or didn't care about it enough at that particular point in time.
