4-20-1986:

The 1985/86 Boston Celtics have been regarded as one of the greatest NBA teams of all time. With a home record of 40-1 that season (only losing to the Portland Trailblazers) Boston was the clear favorite to roll through all competetion and earn top spot as the 1986 NBA Finals Champions. 1st round action paired the eventual champions up with the Chicago Bulls lead by a 23 year old 2nd year Michael Jordan comming off an 18 game season due to a broken bone in his foot.

In game 1 Jordan put on a spectacular show dropping 49 points on the star studded line-up of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, Dennis Johnson, Danny Ainge 6th Man Of The Year Bill Walton, and former All Star Scott Wedmen. Jordans refusal to lay down was not enough as Boston took game 1 123-104. Game 2 was a completely different story. Noone expected to see the highest single player scoring record for a playoff game come against the 67-15 Celtics and definately noone expected to see it come with Boston playing as the home team. Boston did eventually go on to win the game but Jordan was more determined this time around after getting to see what Boston was capable of. Jordan dropped 54 on the Celtics in regulation and hit 2 free throws with no time on the clock to send the game into overtime. An eventual 2nd overtime came when Larry Bird missed a 3 at the buzzer. Boston proved to be too much for the young Jordan with minimal help in the 2nd overtime though as Boston overcame the Bulls 135-131. In game 3 Boston knew they couldnt let Jordan have even the slightest margin of open shots. Boston focused on defending Jordan and left the game up to the rest of the team. Forcing Jordan to change his game up may have been the start of the Jordan legacy as Michael handled the adjustment well dropping his points to 19 for the game also dishing out 9 assists and grabbing 10 rebounds. The eventual outcome of the series was a sweep for the Boston Celtics who eventually did go on to win the Finals after a 6 game series with the Houston Rockets.

In this video I have put all 63 of Michael Jordans points (including all free throws) and a block and steal by the young athlete from game 2. Also there is an overlooked shot by Kevin Mchale while sitting on top of a Bulls player, this shot rarely gets played due to the fact this game was Jordans night.

The music in the video is from Run DMCs "Raising Hell" and Beastie Boys "License To Ill" albums. I chose these albums because they are in my opinion two of the greatest rap/hip hop albums of all time and they were both released in 86, the same years as Jordans 63 point explosion!

  • what was that song in the very beginning of the video?????

  • @theimmortal8265 Eminem - Nail in the Coffin

  • Jordan scored 63 in 58 minutes.

PPG allowed by Boston in 1985-86: 104.7

    League-wide PPG in 1985-86: 110

    Final score: 135 - 131 (Celtics win)

Kobe scored 81 in 48 minutes.

PPG allowed by Toronto in 2005-06: 104.0

    League-wide PPG in 2005-06: 97.0

    Final Score: 122-104 (Lakers win)

    Kobe's 81 is better

  • @jeffnmj Youre HIGH! Jordan did that in the playoffs at Boston (Who only lost 1 game all season at home) and who was also a much better defense than Toronto. You're comparing two totally different atmospheres there...A playoff game against the best team in the league as opposed to a meaningless regular season game where Toronto admitted they had a game plan to let Kobe be. Kobe got points in garbage time also (Notice the score) Chicago needed Michael playing just to keep it close.

  • @jeffnmj If it was in a playoffs game than it would

  • @jan279 very

  • @oliverrainman You're obviously high! xD

  • so this is the game many of yah michael fans consider his greatest game ?first of weak d no challenge second he lost so whats the point only reason this boston team was so great was cause they were good offensively

  • @jeffnmj Even more than that, Jordan also took the 3-pointer to win the game in regulation, but was fouled. Under the pressure of a raucous BSG crowd, Jordan force OT with 2 FTs (before you got 3 for getting fouled behind the 3-pt arc). The ONLY thing about the Kobe game that was greater than that Jordan game was the fact that he scored more points. In every other aspect, Jordan's game was FAR more impressive.

  • @jeffnmj Ah yes, another fool who thinks Kobe > MJ. Jordan played against the world champion Celtics in the playoffs. Kobe went against a poor Toronto team in the regular season. Jordan played nearly 60 minutes going into the paint time and time again, single-handedly putting 5-6 Celtics in major foul trouble. The defensive rules were also different then, allowing defenders to be much more physical. Kobe's 81-point game was awesome. Jordan's 63-point game was legendary. Gain some perspective.

  • jordan in his prime would easily have scored well over 100 points

  • @jeffnmj Your a retard the Boston Celtics in 1985-1986 were one of the greatest teams in NBA history. They had great defense and they lost one game all year at home. Who'd Kobe score 81 against the scrub Toronto Raptors.
