James Meredith, civil rights activist best known for his integration of the University of Mississippi, was interviewed at the Robert H. Jackson Center on March 25, 2007. Here are some vignettes. Copyright 2010 Robert H. Jackson Center.
James Meredith is definitely his own man. He has more guts than all the supposed "black activist" combined. The arrogant ativists who came "down south" often did it for their own self-righteosness and self-focused reasons. Meredith was not part of that whole shallow reasoning. He later became an assistant to Sen. Jesse Helms in North Carolina. The traditional racial justice people hate James Meredith because he is not their robot. He is his own man. Meredith did great things.
