A brief video showcasing original encaustic paintings by Jan Blencowe. Encaustic paint is an ancient painting medium made from bees wax, pigment and damar resin. This luminous paint was invented in the 5th century BC in Greece. Beautiful examples of 1st centruy AD Roman Funerary portraits done in encaustic can be seen at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
