Although Brian Setzer's stompin' ground is Rockabilly, he's played some very hot jump blues since he started the Brian Setzer Orchestra in the mid nineties.

It turns out that most Rockabilly licks can be played in a jump blues setting. They are two branches of the same tree.

By incorporating typical Rockabilly riffs and tricks he's definitely added his own slant on jump.

The solos contain the use of open strings, sixth intervals, full chords in a stop chorus, diminished runs and augmented chords. A full bag of beans.

  • Setzer was a huge factor in reviving interest in rockabilly. Rockabilly is no one artist, but he epitomises the "new" rockabilly ie not Johnny Burnette, Scotty Moore. You might like Redd Volkaert and Western Swing style, too, if you like this.

  • you know smappleMcwingers , i didn't come here to see a setzer lesson , i'm interested in rockabilly style , and if setzer is rockabilly , rockabilly isn't setzer , as far as i can see , this is a good rockabilly lesson

  • If you want to see actual Setzer lessons, just youtube Setzer lessons. What makes his playing so special is his dexterity and, musically, his scale switching. You stay in the same scale and then, when it goes to the 4, you move up to the 8th fret box, which I have NEVER seen Setzer do. IF he moves up the fret board, he's changing scales.
