Interested in learning about modern board games? In this video, Scott Nicholson starts with aspects of Monopoly and then presents other games that might be interesting to explore.

(Note - this is BGWS 070 with a new introduction to make it friendly to all.)

  • You didn't manage to stay away for a long time :)

  • @anotherelvis I told you not to go anywhere! :)

  • why the re upload basically? plus do you think you could give me or pm me a list of solitaire board? kinda like b17 game... that would be nice. ive asked around a loud but cant get responses.

  • @TonPappa Some people wanted to pass on the original BGWS episode, but felt the intro might turn people off. I got more than 10 requests for a version with a different intro, and I know each of those voiced requests represent many unvoiced ones.

  • Wow, great chanel, than you for putting those videos on. Love those reviews, unlike many on the internet they are very informative and well thought. Thanks a lot again.

  • Acquire is so fun!

  • Also, if settlers of catan wants to make it into the public eye (i know its very popular in the board game community, but I'm talking about getting it to the Monopoly level where everyone knows what it is) they really need to re-theme it in a modern way. The game looks like it was made in the 1800s, wooden pieces, trading sheep for wood. I'm sure the game play is great, but most people are turned off by historical stuff.

  • what if you enjoy rolling dice and moving around the board, investing in property, collecting stuff, trading, crafting big deals, wacky cards, auctions, and that monopoly feel? I get that your breaking it up into its elements, but if you want to tear me away from monopoly you need to give me a game that gives me the same experience but better no a game that gives me one part of the experience. Some of those games looked kind of fun on their own though.

  • Dear Mr. Nicholson, thank you for this video. I just wanted to know if you would mind doing a video about breaking up risk, i love risk and wargames like it such as Attack, axis and allies and conquest of the empire. But sadly i am the only one in my family who really enjoys these games! Thank you for your time.

  • If you want to do all of that get Monopoly? =P

  • Monkaroobabies? Kangoorillas? :D

  • Your videos are always interesting. I tend to go for the department stores board games because I really like them. It's just they appeal themewise to me. For something like Settlers of Catan, it's people doing I don't know farming, or fishing, gaining land, and the theme is boring to me. And something like Dominion seems way too geeky for me. I just love games like Bumper Cars, Sorry!, Scrabble, Clue, Uno Stacko, Topple, Dizzy Dizzy Dinosaur, Jurassic Park, etc. The zoo game is fun though!

  • that's life! is out of print... maybe you should only recommend games that are available on the market now

  • My wife laughed at me for sleeving EVERY Dominion card up to Seaside. I'm glad I'm not the only one who sleeved them.
