No sirens in this one, just the pure sound of Detroit, with a nice Jake brake to spice things up. All it lacks is a manual transmission.

  • Awsome ride, am wondering what chassis Your in? and what part of the country, looks like my area here in new England, Nothiing like a Detroit just got rid of a 60 series with a ton PP work, was dynoing 675, Great ride for sure thanks for sharing i'll make on this week in the KW cummins though may not even hear it on the cam, LOL.

    Thanks

  • @Domal88 1985 Seagrave. I don't remember which chassis it is. Filmed in Rowley, MA. See RowleyFire(dot)org

  • What is Jake braking?

  • @Krait99 It refers to the Jacobs Engine Brake, which uses engine compression to slow the vehicle when coasting. There are many types of devices which do this, but 'Jake Brake' has become commonly used to describe them all (like Scotch tape.)

This one does have a genuine Jacobs device. HTH,

  • @EdgevilleRWY If the price of diesel fuel weren't so high, I'd buy myself a diesel truck.

  • There's no way I'd want a manual transmission in a fire apparatus. There's too much going on for the driver to worry about shifting. Detroits' have some great sound if your watching the truck flying by on a run, but they make too much noise in the cab. Makes it hard to communicate with the rest of the crew. I prefer the Cummins engines.

  • @EdgevilleRWY I'm in Ellington CT, we ain't got anything like this, not sure if we ever did.

  • @EdgevilleRWY NIICCCEEEEEEEEEEEEE, a Detroit with an automatic transmission! Now I know I can drive a big rig, but how to go about doing it for the show circuit....

  • love that sound

  • @Krait99 really?

  • wheres the siren was it broke?

  • Sweet, and yes a manual would bring that Detroit rumble to life.

  • Nearly all diesel engines sound awful. One of the few exceptions are the Detroit 2-strokers, I love 'em.

Now.... where can I get hold of a 6-71 coupled to a semi-auto box to replace the asthmatic Ford heap I've got in my old truck?
