Chapter 6
"Can someone please explain to me again :Why are you two coming with me?" Joe complained.
"We're just curious, bro," Kevin replied.
"Yeah," Nick answered, "We just want to see how our little buddy does on the 'playing field.'"
"Alright," Joe gave up, "But make yourselves scarce, all right?"
"He's nervous about us seeing his date?" Kevin looked at Kevin.
"Oh yeah," Nick joked, "He's a bachelor now."
The three were about to enter Starbucks.
"Hold on," Nick interrupted, "I just had a brilliant idea. Kev and I can be your wing-men!"
"Sure," Joe smirked. "So grow wings and fly away. Far, FAR away."
Kevin reprimanded, "Don't be like that, Joe. We're trying to help."
Joe froze when he saw Demi sitting at a table. A book was in her hands.
"Then help me by being good wing-men," he said, trying not to move his lips.
The three approached the table.
"Hi, Demi," Joe waved. He felt stupid right afterward -she wasn't even looking at him.
"Hey," she greeted. "And what are those two doing here?"
"Kevin Jonas," he introduced, bowing, "At your service."
"And I'm Nicholas Jonas. Pleasure to meet you."
"I know who you are. I want to know what you're doing here," Demi was still looking down at her book.
"She's a tough one, isn't she?" Nick whispered in Joe's ear.
"Definitely a keeper," Kevin whispered in the other ear. "She's hot."
"Anyway," Demi finally closed the book and put it down. "Take a seat." The three did so. And the interrogation began:
"So, how was your date?"
"What do you like about Joe the most?"
"On a scale of one to ten, with one being the lowest, how satisfied were you with the date?"
"How old are you?"
Before any more questions came out, Joe stomped on both of their feet.
"OW!!!"
Demi raised an eyebrow, "What is this? The Spanish Inquisition?"
"No, no," Joe grinned to hide his dismay, "They're just a bit overprotective sometimes."
"Hm?" Demi was suddenly staring at Joe. "I never noticed before..."
"His charming good looks?"
"His breathtaking smile?"
"His heavenly voice?"
"His lean but muscular figure?"
Joe stomped on their feet once again.
"OW!!!"
"So," Joe smiled nervously, "You were saying?"
She turned away, with an elbow on the table and her chin in her hand. "Never mind."
What Demi had noticed about Joe was that his eyes were hazel. She dared not to look directly at them again...
Suddenly, her cellphone rang. Demi took it out to see that she was supposed to pick up her sister from...
Her thought was interrupted when...
"You know, you don't have to be shy about giving Joe a comment," Kevin said.
"Yeah," Nick agreed, "Kev and I are all for confidentiality."
"We respect other people's privacy."
"If you really DID respect other people's privacy," Joe reminded sharply, "THEN YOU WOULDN'T BE HERE RIGHT NOW, WOULD YOU?" He cleared his throat, "But, Demi, it wouldn't kill you to give me a compliment some time. You're always criticizing me..."
"Um, I have to be somewhere right now..." Demi stood up with the book in her hand. "I'll see you some other time, Joe."
"OK... Bye..." Joe was at a loss for words.
The moment she was out of the store.
"You guys are the WORST wing-men EVER!"
"But, dude, she was into you! ... I think..."
"You think!?"
"We can't exactly be 100% sure..."
"Well, since she's left, NOW WE'LL NEVER KNOW!"
"Joseph Adam Jonas, are you implying that it was OUR fault Demi left."
"That's EXACTLY what I'm saying!"
