Two months of work invested by one crazy dude who likes Halloween a little too much. You probably think I'm insane, but I love Halloween, the holiday, and I love Halloween, the 1978 original. This is my second year taking on a serious Haunt for the Trick-or-Treaters. It was organized, arranged, and built entirely by myself.

After a crucial falling out for recording the display hours before the Haunt started, the only thing lying around was a Kodak Zi6 and a good friend up for the job. Unfortunately, this is the only footage he was able to capture, but for having hardly any camera experience and stepping up to the plate last-minute, I was pretty impressed.

Traffic was [very] low, some kids didn't bother wearing a costume, not everything went according to plan, sensors were malfunctioning, but the weather was decent, my friends were there, and I let my passion loose for my favorite holiday. I had definitely organized way too much work for a solo project, resulting in a lot of stress, but it all came together, 'bout 90% complete, and it was awesome!

A special personal THANK YOU to each of the following: Steph, Mom & Dad, Ben, Josh, Mark, Carin, Matt, Jeff, Jen, Brooke, Rob, Jacen Solo, prop guru JC (James), mask mastermind David @ BoogeymanMasks, LifeSizeDesigns, Travis @ FrightIdeas, Gorey Corey @ MinionsWeb, OpenTrackRacer and all the other crazy Haunters @ HalloweenForum, and of course John Carpenter for revolutionizing horror as we know it, visually and aurally, with an iconic character and soundtrack.

Happy Halloween!

  • sweet set up! how did you get the music cue like that?

  • I used three prop control boxes for each scene, specifically the picoBoo FI-105 by Fright Ideas. Two were triggered by PIR motion sensors and the "pop-out" blockade was manually controlled.

  • Ha hey man here's to ya, I do the exact same thing here in Chicago. I have the kids walk through a wooded area and I have theme music goin from all the horror movies, but now my new mix has all the creepy scores from 78 Halloween. Nothing makes me happier than throwing down a good scare for the kids. Happy Halloween
