An individual frame is just like a picture. It does not matter if you use a 'frame' from a video or a still picture from a photocamera.

What is the difference in taking single frames out of a video and use them as "pictures" to create your stop motion? There are enough HD (pocket) cams available, and with this method the camera won't move and you won't have to take every picture manually. The only big work is cutting out the right frames.
