Come, rest in this bosom, my own stricken deer,
Though the herd have fled from thee, thy home is still here:
Here still is the smile that no cloud can o'ercast,
And the heart and the hand all thy own to the last.

Oh! what was love made for, if 'tis not the same
Through joy and through torments, through glory and shame!
I knew not, I ask not if guilt's in that heart,
I but know that I love thee, whatever thou art!

Thou hast call'd me thy angel, in moments of bliss, --
Sill thy Angel I'll be, 'mid the horrors of this, --
Through the furnace, unshrinking, thy steps to pursue,
And shield thee, and save thee, or perish there too!

by Thomas Moore (1779-1852)

  • wonderful, have you seen an episode of the tv series masters of horror called the black cat? in that episode this song is performed by poe's wife on piano and voice, do you have any idea of who could it be? or where can I get a vocal version of this? Ive been searching the whole web but nothing comes out

  • @ikomplex I had no idea that series had a Poe episode, so thanks for the tip! Just watched it and no, I'm afraid I don't know much more about the scene where she sings :/

  • @SpinyNorman90

it's ok, did you like the episode? I see you're a big Poe fan. I think that little performance was beautiful and I thought there should be a full version recorded of the song but I think it will never come out, what a shame

  • I liked it, even though there might've been some issues with the direction. Anyway, to me Poe is such a mysterious person it's pretty hard to watch anyone acting as him. I liked the references to his personal life and work although the overall feel was a bit messy because of it I guess. The style reminded me a bit about Nikolaj Frobenius's novel 'Jeg skal vise dere frykten' which also mixes Poe's life and work (recommended!). I guess the upcoming John Cusack film is based on it (oh dear...).

  • where did you get this?

  • @ikomplex the music is from a brilliant Edgar Allan Poe fansite, The House of Usher :)

  • @ikomplex - I, too, would like a full version. I wonder whether the actress sang that or lip synched (it looked like the latter to me). In either case, very nice singing and a very tasteful arrangement that fits that period of history.

  • simply wonderful...
