John McCain has told his story about when he was a POW and his captor drew a cross in the sand and that he'll never forget. However his story is pretty darn near the story told by by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. Sure this type of thing could happen more then once however McCain seems to be a Solzhenitzyn buff. Mresl you should give credit to theyoungturks thats where the story broke and it seems you're just regurgitating the facts. Have a little dignity and pay respect to the original source. And I don't even particularly like their channel but respect the coverage of this story.

Turns out this story actually kinda broke a while back when McCain first came out with his cross in the sand add. I don't know who broke the story, I just put the video out there and blogged about it like hundreds of other blogs did. Lighten up!

I must admit that it's just conjecture...

But wait! There's more evidence!

Look up the CNN transcripts for 28/02/2000 morning.

McCain tells the same story, except that it's in the third person.

Now, it could very well be that he was talking about himself in the third person, but I still find it fishy.

It's also fishy that he never mentionned the story before 1999.

That said, this is all just circumstantial evidence.

Its great to know that the NVA were so well read! But then again, Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago might be more esoteric reading. Perhaps the guard had read/heard that the "cross in the sand" bit has been done for CENTURIES by persecuted Christians since the Roman days as a method of discreet identification.
