These are my five hens. (And my female pekin named Sunny in the begginning) There's 3 Rhode island reds and 2 Easter Eggers. In 2 days they will be 20 weeks old, and one of the Rhode islands just started laying. Also, the RIRs aren't pure breeds, and are bred to lay more eggs. They are all really tame, but since they've never seena camera before some of them are really nervous around it. And yeah, their kennel/setup is pretty ghetto, but I'm pretty much in the city, in a small 1/3 of an acre suburban yard and this works great. I let them out for several hours a day, if it's not raining. They have their mouths open because it's hot out, it's like how a dog pants. If you have any questions about my chickens or need help with yours, then just ask!

  • why are those two chickens right after the duck kicking the dirt?

  • @TheMostAwesomeMan242 It's called dust bathing. It helps with external parasites and keeps them cool in hot weather.

  • Do they get to to play outside sometime?

  • @ellie3637 They are let out everyday as long as it's not pouring rain. And for the open mouths, it's as normal as a panting dog. They have access to plenty of fresh water and full shade. It can get a good 98 degrees with 100% humidity in the shade here in Florida. The dust bathing helps keep them from getting too hot.

  • are you going to eat them? i wud

  • @GTAtoxicsl0th Read the replies/descriptions. These are pets, and for eggs. Otherwise I'd happily have a flock for nothing but delicious meat chickens given I had the room.

  • @TRYMTRYM1 Define "normel" please.

  • @charifthemoose It's called "dust bathing" They do it because it feels good, especially on hot summer days. When the cool dirt gets inbetween their feathers it cools them off. It also is believed to help with external parasies such as mites, ticks, and fleas.
