a test i just finished using some new stop motion puppets i built last weekend with the lovely and talented erica frank. they were made with fox and rabbit bones, wire glue foam and clay. i did the test rather quickly - so it is a bit sloppy - but i wanted to see how these guys looked in action. i was shooting for a harryhausen meets svankmajer vibe with maybe just a dash of the tim burton / rankin bass feel. lemme know what you guys think. the music is an unused cue i composed for an episode of masters of horror.

  • hi there I'm just looking at different techniques with stop motion for my media project and I'm just wondering did you have the puppets on strings or moved them individualy for each frame?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, I've just started learning film techniques :P hehe

  • @Madsenband88

i moved them a frame at a time

    they have wire armature skeletons

so when you bend them a little they stay in place

  • love your models, is that a rabbit skull you used?

  • on the big guy - yes

see all

  • this is awesome

  • Did you go to U.W.E.?

  • Damn good stuff! like Svankmajer.

  • @richragsdale awesome thanks heaps :D

  • ALICE was my favourate stop-motion film. I loved the surrealism Svankmajer used all through the movie. It got me into stop-motion in 1989. Been doing it ever since. Nice to see someone else who likes the dark surreal stuff. Great.

  • Reminds me of Alice by Jan Svankmajer..

WHOA okay I just read your description. WERD!!

    You're cool :)

  • It was first pioneered by Willis O'Brien. Other pioneers like Harryhausen and Rankin Bass were inspired by Obie.
