this is a test of a free-fall lifeboat from newbuild vessel Overseas Houston. Footage recorded at Aker Philadelphia Shipyard outfitting dock, Jan 07. The frozen water had to be broken up to conduct this test.

  • no it doesnt your buckled in real tight with a double seatbelt sort of thing, i was part of the testing and commisions of a different life boat just like this one.

  • The desent might look scarry but floating is not the only problem in such a senario. Hypothermia could kill you long before you start to sink but, this thing keeps you from getting wet under any conditions and launches you away from the troubled ship. Since its got an engine you can put distance between you and the ship.

  • Wont the impact hurt?

  • I would not go on that life boat, I think I would find a chair to float on.

  • Ummmm, I'll take my chances on the sinking ship thanks....
