One of the first brand name cases for the Motorola DROID 3, the Otterbox Commuter is surprisingly slim given its pedigree with other smartphones. Each case comes with a screen protector and the Commuter itself is only sold in one color - black. Overall it's a solid high quality case we've come to expect from Otterbox - and one of the rare brand name items to come out for the phone at the moment.

  • What is your like preffered choice. Are you more on the Aegis or Commuters side? I am needing a great amazing case. Hopefully one that will hold up like the Gumdrop Case for my iPad2. (I am rough sometimes) Please which one is the strongest and best?

  • @Buckie1985

It simply depends on the phone in question. Generally speaking we prefer the Aegis for its overall looks and feel, and the Commuter for its size and reliability. Most people don't consider warranty on their cases to be of any real use, but OtterBox products have a no hassle 1 year return / exchange from date of purchase which many have exercised and been happy with.

So if you need the protection, generally the Commuter is better. But the Aegis looks a lot funner.

  • ok i bought a 3500MAH battery it made my phone bulkier is there a case that will actually fit?

  • @arnoni11

Play through style case? Unfortunately not.

The only case(s) we can think of that will accommodate the DROID 3 with an extended battery are universal "pouch" style cases. These vary in size and are meant to hold a phone in its entirety, but you can not use the phone while inside.

  • I have this case and like it a lot, although, I have had to replace it because the faceplate cover broke the first time I doped it in a parking lot, but that being said, It did what it was supposed to do and it protected my phone.. I was wondering if you could tell me how to take the front cover off so I can install a new screen protector..

  • @littledogs1

All front snap on cases use "teeth" or "hooks" to attach to the front slider portion of the phone. Slide open your DROID 3 phone and look underneath the edges of the top piece.

You should see these large flat "hooks" protruding out. Simply bend those slightly out of shape and push the piece outward to loosen the grip and detach it. If you need more specific instructions, Otterbox is always willing to help you with their CS staff.

  • Ohkay. Thanks. I am not able to directly reply because I am on my droid now. Haha so I will go with the commuter with protection thx soo much!

  • @DayDealOnDisplay i have one im not going to use it unless im out for a while

  • It's 11:35 for quite a while in this video

No unfortunately it will not. Standard OEM charging cradles for many smartphones out there only accommodate the "naked" phone - meaning the original phone without anything else on it.

For your reference, the size of the Commuter case for the DROID 3 is:

    6.13 in x 2.83 in x 0.68 in

    130.3 mm x 71.7 mm x 1.3 mm
