On Sunday, September 14 2008, a peaceful but passionate crowd of about 200 hundred Afghans gathered in front of the Federal Building in Los Angeles in order to voice their dissent against increasing civilian deaths from U.S. air and ground attacks. This demonstration was organized by Afghan Universaty students and comunity leaders from Southern California. The protestors ranged in age from infants to the elderly and the speakers included Afghans from Pashto as well as Farsi speaking backgrounds. The protestors unanimously condemned US air strikes causing death of Afghan civilians like the one on the 22nd of August in the village of Azizabad, near the western city of Herat where U.S. coalition bombs killed up to 95 civilians, including 60 children. As one protestor noted "the lack of compassion" has Afghans abroad and at home questioning the roll of the US military presence.
I shot the protest and sent some clips to Democracy Now and 20 secs made it into their headlines yesterday. I also cut a 10 min piece and am sending it to everyone else to get these much needed voices out.

wow, I am amazed that some Americans particularly Afghan Americans can speak up the hypocrisy of US government. But in general Afghan Americans pretend to be more arrogant Americans than white ones.

I believe the combat mission in Afghanistan NEEDS to stop immediately. Its been 10 years since the invasion and americans haven't done a thing to win the Afghan people's confidence. HOWEVER the Afghan army is HIGHLY unqualified and would need extensive training from american forces. Inshallah if Afghans can unite and organize more protests such as this one, I believe it will extrapulate into Afghanistan. And the people will rise up against not only the Taliban but also foreign entities.

@Arweto01 - I pray for a peaceful non-violent movement of Afghan people to rise up and end the war and all killings Insha-Allah.

You're absolutely right, the thing is the Afghan American community is just now waking up and realizing what US foreign policy is really about.
