The Songwriter (using Digitech JamMan Solo & Vocalist Live Pro)

I've met many talented songwriters over the years, young and old, flashy and solemn. I wrote "The Songwriter" to paint a picture of the quest of these composers. From the hope infused ballad to the wisdom-laced opus, those who have the dream of reaching others with their sonatas have one thing in common: aspiration.

The lonely boy, the shy young girl and the grey old man are all ambitiously crafting sonic art while discovering that their instrument can be their best friend. Often going it alone, there can be doubt and insecurity in every step of their journey. Lyrics and music can offer the opportunity to relate to our personal lives and augment our own lifepath - and long after the songwriter has left the stage, the sincerity and poignancy is always there for us when we need it most...good songs entrench themselves into our core being...a beacon and a mirror...

This rendition of "The Songwriter" was performed on the last day of music at Espresso Yourself Music Café, a musical oasis in rural Ohio where songwriters of all ages and styles came together to share the secrets of their spirit and the passion for soul-searching songs.




I am using my Ovation Balladeer routed thru the Vocalist Live Pro, then into the Boss GT3, thru the Yamaha MG82cx mixer, with the the DigiTech JamMan Solo looper routed thru the MG82cx effects send... then into the house PA. I am singing thru an Audio-Technica ATM-73a into the Digitech Vocalist Live Pro, which is also routed thru the MG82cx. The audio feed in this video is from Ben Ahlteen using the house board at EMYC. Audio was captured using the line input of the Kodak Zi8 camcorder (the same camcorder I used to record my live album). Please pardon the low resolution and un-matched cameras, these are from tapes intended for archive only.
