Will Google personalize results based on user IP location?

"Google is currently showing local results for generic terms (such as "restaurants") even when you don't specify a town/city. Is Google going to start displaying different results based on the location of the IP (even when logged out)?

One of the aspects I love about the internet is that the whole world uses the same internet. The internet is a world without borders where everyone can access the same sites, tools and content.

By localizing the results google (conciusly or not) is eroding one of the key features of the internet: the universal access. I believe google is not worthy of the w w w they have infront of their name because they are not working towards a wider wold web but rather a narrower local network.

Mattm I think you're great and so is Google, but you're here as Google's authority. A beacon of information in a sea of speculation. So when someone asks you a question, I reckong they want the answer, not your guess. If you don't know the answer, wouldn't it make sense to find out before making your video?

Let us decide how the result to be displayed! If we want to go local, we can just click the in country radio button rite? So why you're trying to filter result based on IP?

Will it effect the situation like target market in Europe but the website is in Asia?

Please answer me. I really concern on this!

With respect, I think this is a bad idea. Leave it to the user to use search terms. Google is pulling other data into the query without the user having control over it. This means that if a user wanted to actually know the history of coffee, google is making an incorrect assumption. Google should not make assumptions like this. how hard is it to expect a user to type in a geographic location if that's what they actually want?

When you talked about search keywords related to to the 'Geographic Target' which also relevant to searcher's IP location, that is why it's very important to me checking for what keywords googlebot has had already crawled at my site.

THE STEPS;

1. Webmaster Tools - sign in

2. Dashboard - after clicking the web URL

3. click 'Your site on the web'

4. click 'Keywords'

It listed all of the crawled keywords e.g. Pizza, Orange, Shoe, etc. - what I can say, it's very amazing and very informative.

I think Googlebot already instructed by us if we have registered our site at Webmaster Tools for Geographic Target; Dashboard > Site configuration > Settings > Geographic target (select the country).
