WM uses these facilities as PR for selling the idea of landfills to townships and counties. After these landfills close there is still decades of power grade methane being produced but WM stops investing in these facilities. WM leases the land where they dump trash and as soon as the landfill closes their main goal is to ride out the permit and dump it all back into the owner's lap(city, county, state etc..,). These gas plants ARE NOT long term investments. I know because I worked for WM.

WM gets allot of complaints, here they are doing one thing right, success would be offsetting garbage bills by producing energy...than you would be talking.
If it weren't for politicians catering to bad corporations to line their own pockets for profit, every community could generate revenue and offset the cost for its citizens. Nothing supports capitalism better than a strong thriving middle class community with enough free time to invent the next generation of businesses. We forget...
