I'm coming Virginia Bix 1927/Gunhild 1987
I received an email from Aina Carling, mother of Gunhild Carling who wrote me how surprised she was hearing and seeing the family playing on my postings of their film recordings. She was most amazed to see daughter Gunhild play cornet in I'm Coming Virginia.
Now, almost 20 years later she realized how good it all sounded.
I also received a copy of the IAJRC journal, the magazine of the International Association of Jazz Record Collectors. In this issue was an article written by Gil Erskine and some of his favourite films clips were these of the Carling Family.
Thirdly I received a Christmas card from Stellan Obert from Sweden. Stellen was the person who videotaped these films in the early jazz playing days of the Carlings.
Although I posted I'm coming Virginia before, I have taken this tune once more where Gunhild and the Carling family band are playing the final chorus of the tune, to be preceded by the original 1927 recording of Bix Beiderbecke with the Frankie Trumbauer Orchestra.
All totally amazing.
Absolutely amazing. Well done, Gunhild.
