Sergio Kochergin served in Iraq with 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, Scout/Sniper Platoon.
He tells how the rules of engagement became more and more lax as casualties were taken, frustration and anger helping blur the lines of conduct. Orders coming down that any Iraqi carrying a heavy bag and shovel had committed an executable offense put an entire population in the crosshairs.
He also notes a lack of care for soldiers suffering known suicidal bent.
A heartfelt apology capping it all.
