Shark tagging - Le marquage de requins

- The Cousteau team observed 67 great white sharks, tagged 40 of them and found that 23 returned during two years of expeditions, some on two or more voyages. In order to tag the sharks, the team used two approaches: luring a shark close enough to Alcyones rear deck for a scientist to reach the fish and enticing a shark close enough to the metal cage to reach it with the tagging lance. Trying different attractants, the team did discover one thing: great white sharks do not like to eat decoys.

- L'équipe Cousteau a observé 67 grands requins blancs et marqué 40 d'entre eux ; 23 d'entre eux ont été revus au cours des deux années d'expéditions, et pour certains à deux ou même plusieurs reprises. Pour marquer ces animaux, l'équipe a adopté deux approches : appâter le requin assez près du pont arrière pour qu'un scientifique puisse l'atteindre ou le faire venir suffisamment près de la cage métallique pour l'atteindre avec la lance de marquage. En essayant divers moyens d'attirer l'animal, l'équipe a découvert une chose : les grands requins blancs n'aiment pas manger les leurres.
