He is wearing a combination of tier 2, tier 2.5 and tier 3. Not the best but some of the best gear you could get at level 60.
Not sure how that is fail ... Try doing this damage in level 60 gear ;) Without new talents

never had a mage.. but my bud did and yah he did shit like that before BC.. and to make it clear... all gear before 70 is fail if you play BC.. its not your skill its the gear..

ofc this is no skill :) simply pushing some buttons to shoot a mob. Remember this mob does not have scorch debuffs for another 15% damage. 4800 damage isnt bad for a level 60 mage ;)
