New York City folksinger Christine Lavin wrote the song, THE NEW STREET PEOPLE, to encourage smokers to quit smoking. As students at River Ridge HIgh School & learning t.v. production skills with their library/media specialist teacher, Courtenay O'Connell, Andrew Ortoski, Jayme Hill, Kat Nece, & Anka van Zyl (named the New Port Richey Bodacious Buttkickers by Christine Lavin) created the music video for the song. This video won county, district, state, and international awards in the FAME competition in 2004. It won recognition in the Independent Film Festival that same year, sponsored the the Tampa Education Channel. In 2005, it won first place in the Friends of the Tarpon Springs Public Library, Inc., Sol Peska Film Competition. In 2006, KORR-TV5's Scott Dyl created a quicktime movie of the video for uploading on the school's website, but now, as a member of YouTube, others can see it now!

Excellent production.

Christine Lavin is very talented, but as a former smoker, I can say her "tough love" theory is rubish. When I was a smoker I didn't put up with this shit, and neither will other smokers. I quite because I was ready, not because someone pissed me off. I have to admit anti smoking adds make me want to smoke.... Bottom line smokers will smoke or quite when they say, and not the otherway around. Great song though
