In these tough economic times, Time Banks provide their members a way to exchange services without using money. People use time credits that they can earn by providing work that they enjoy doing, or are skilled at. This system also helps remind individuals of their personal worth during a stressful period of unemployment. VPT will visit with people currently making use of the Time Bank system.

  • I don't think it should be a goal not exist. The traditional monetary system has limits. It's based on scarcity and doesn't value everything properly. Everyone has at least some time, so time banking helps deal with the scarcity issue. It's also a way to value to things the monetary system fails to value-helping your neighbors, building community, strengthening neighborhoods. Parallel currencies like time dollars are important for compensating for the traditional monetary system's shortcomings.

I'm not a member of this time bank, so I don't know for sure, but most time banks that charge a membership fee also let members "earn" their fee through services (time dollars) rather than having a strict requirement for cash.
