Stevenson Ends Salisbury's CAC Unbeaten Streak at 105

SALISBURY, Md. - Juniors Nic Bevacqua (Boonton Township, N.J./Mt. Lakes) and Richie Ford (Baltimore/Towson) each scored four goals as the Stevenson University men's lacrosse team snapped Salisbury's 105-game CAC unbeaten streak with a four-goal victory over No. 4-ranked Salisbury Saturday night at Sea Gull Stadium, 12-8.

The win on April 4th comes in the fourth-ever meeting between the two schools as the Mustangs (11-0, 5-0 CAC) outscored the Sea Gulls by four in the third quarter which gave them an 11-6 lead headed into the fourth quarter.

After a goal by Salisbury's Mike Von Kamecke tied the game at 6-6 just 1:17 into the third quarter, Ford and Bevacqua combined to score the next five consective goals with Bevacqua scoring his second of the quarter and fourth of the game with 2:21 remaining to give Stevenson its largest lead, 11-6.

The Mustangs outshot the Sea Gulls 14-5 in the third quarter while forcing eight turnovers and taking advantage of four extra-man opportunities.

Salisbury's Johnny Rodriguez, the CAC's leader in goals against average and saves percentage, made seven of his 13 saves in the quarter.

The 14-time CAC champions would pull within three with 8:08 left in the game on back-to-back goals by Sam Bradman and Matt Cannone, but the two teams combined for nine turnovers over the next 6:10 before Ford netted his season-high fourth goal of the season with 1:58 left to seal the victory.

Junior Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) added a goal and two assists while senior Chris Baldwin (Baltimore/Calvert Hall) added one and one and a game-high seven ground balls.

The game featured five ties, including the third at 4-4 after Kazimer scored the second of two-straight Mustang goals with 9:48 to play in the second quarter off an assist from senior Brett Yoder (Parkton/Hereford).

Yoder finished with one assist, three ground balls and three caused turnovers in his first game back at Salisbury since totaling 85 points on 30 goals and 55 assists for the Sea Gulls from 2005-07 where he won two national championships in 2005 and 2007.

Junior Geoff Hebert (Lutherville/Dulaney) was credited with six saves in picking up his 11th-straight victory in goal.

The Sea Gulls (11-2, 5-1 CAC) were led by two goals each from Cannone and Mike Winter. Bradman had one goal and one assist while Patrick Bonanno had two assists.
