@KJlost hatsumi is in his 70's and that weapon can weigh 100 pounds. it may not have looked pretty or fancy, but watch other video's of soke and you will learn just how deceitful what you see is.

I do not know you and cannot judge your skill and so cannot form an opinion about your ability to defend yourself. But as for your desire to see an effective fighter, you have seen one. I know this art and I train in it. If you are, as you just confirmed not so skilled, how can you judge an effective fighter? I meant no insult, but if that is how you took it, that is your prerogative. I sense a useless, long-drawn out argument coming, if I continue, so I will not respond further

@owenspence I don't doubt that you are correct. I'm not a martial arts expert by any means, and do empty-hand stuff for fun only. I do respect the weapon and the techniques shown on the video.

Now go on ahead and show me an effective fighter, and THEN you can start insulting my ability to defend myself. Trying my best to remain polite here, but the execution shown in the video was not what I would put in any kind of demonstration or promotion video.
