BREWSTER Area public officials dont believe its too late to do something about the new motor vehicle taxes and fees imposed on Mid-Hudson Valley counties to help bail out the MTA.
They were approved by the state months ago, but Senator Vincent Leibell, Assemblyman Gregory Ball and local Putnam County officials Friday announced their support for a petition calling for immediate repeal of the new license and registration fees.
Effective September 1, drivers license and vehicle registration fees will increase 25 percent, which means an average drivers license will go from $50 to $64.50 and registering a car weighing 3,500 pounds will increase from $45 to $56. In addition, effective April 1, 2010, all registered vehicles will be required to get new license plates and renewed registration forcing motorists to pay the new fees plus an additional $10 fee for a new license.
Those new fees are going to kill middle-class families who are already strapped in a bad economy, said Ball.
Health care will look like this if Obama care passes.
