This film got me started with computers. DId you know that TRON stands for 'trace on' ? A BASIC debug routine.

I was warned that watching this movie as an adult would ruin my childhood memories. I have to say, the movie still looks fantastic. It was indeed ahead of its time. Also, the filmmakers understood the limitations of their technology. You know how these days CG artists think they can animate realistic people, but really, they can't. They still look creepy--the animated people, not the CG artists.

Absolutely right! Tron was indeed ahead of it's time.

It was the first movie that used Computer Generated Visuals. This was in 1982. It was another 13 years (1995) before, full length CGV film, Toy Story came out.

They had a lot of difficulty creating the LightCycle sequences because they had to control the roll, pitch and yaw of each LightCycle individually.

The Motion Picture Academy also refused to nominate Tron for special effects because they said they "cheated" by using computers.

Disney's usage of the multiplane camera was ahead of its time as well. I commend Disney for taking a chance on, "Tron". Anyone know the plot to the new upcoming film?

This was first movie ever to be developed by computer--a CRAY-1 Supercomputer!
