ALBUM INFO:
So says the poet Balagtas praising his memory of Celia. Celia of old who for today can be Cely. Cely bautista. And love, love that begins in the heart, ending as love in the mind --that's how most of us Filipinos take love into life.
Love sheltered singing in memory.
Sing then as the lover becomes Filipino. Lover sunned by love, singer loved by the sun. And love dies not --dying only together with the sun's dying. If ever, for ever.
As our ancient "Balitaw of Capiz" sings:
"Soft shadow darken, old may be the story, never fades the glory, hark the silver strings thrumming" -- it is not in telling, but in feeling...
And the best feeling comes from singing... a singing that must evoke the romance of an era and nostalgia for its florid emotion. The era of the Harana. The grieving image in the emotions of the KUNDIMAN. All in the sound, caught in the voice, in the Tagalog sensitivity of CELY BAUTISTA.
Cely Bautista sings your memory...
Ang must you remember CELY. She, who was the voice that haunted the radios all over the islands in the early 50's with the Tagalog KUNDIMAN that she made into a classic -- "Hinahanap Kita". The song (co-penned by Luis Ma. Trinidad of Plilita's "A Million Thanks To You" fame) was one of the avalanche Tagalog hits that for a while dominated the Philippine music scene of the '50's, a scene up to now saturated by foreign pop sound.
From that first hit, Cely went on to become an institutional name in our CONTEMPORARY KUNDIMAN SOUNDS.
She once teamed up with Tommy Angeles as a singing love duet. While for now she's one of the illustrious MABUHAY SINGERS of the MARECO sound industry.
She too is part of a current revival of old but gold Filipino musical traditions, appearing as part of that nostalgia production of KAPITBAHAY, a 3-act musical drama by Avellana, the Badjao filmmaker , and his DULAANG BAYAN.
She, CELY BAUTISTA. She is part of your life, of much of your love. Listen to her. And you'll know.

Maraming salamat, sir!
