Enjoy this recipe from Get It Ripe: A Fresh Take on Vegan Cooking and Living by holistic nutritionist jae steele (Arsenal Pulp Press, 2008).
These simple cookies (which are vegan and wheat-free) make a not-too-sweet treat that come together in a flash. Get some valuable baking tips, too.

  • i have to point out....you went out of your way to say you keep your flax seed in the freezer because the oils are delicate and go rancid quickly...but then you baked the cookies in sure at 350 degree...not worrying about the rancid oil that would be produced....im just saying...something to think about

  • @peadoll81 I'm wondering... are you "just saying" or are you asking? Lots of things that eventually get baked are stored in the freezer - some people store large quantities of flour in their freezers, same goes for nuts, oils, spices and cocoa. Rancidity can happen over time in a way it wouldn't happen in the oven.

Next time you "have to point out" maybe you could kindly ask for clarification instead! If that's what you're after (and not looking to simply criticize) I'm happy to try to clarify!

  • why don't you include what temperature your cooking these at-? doesn't it matter?

  • the idea is that you get the book for all the recipe info. trust me (and the feedback of so many others), you'll be glad you did!

  • These are so good. Jae, your book has lots of awesome recipes and tons of great information on healthful food.

  • I picked up a copy of Get It Ripe at Expozine in Montreal last fall. I've been hooked ever since. My wife and I try new recepies every week. Just this past week: Simple Dal, Coconut Caulifloer Ghana, Chili Non-Carné with Pan-Seared Polenta, Brownies with Wings, Zucchini Dates Muffins, Turmeric Ginger Tea! Oh, and I don't start a day without a my Good Morning Elixir! Everything we've tried so far is sooo delicious! It's the

best cook book we own. Can't wait until the next one ;-)

  • Yum! Maple cookies! If you ever need a cookbook sampler for your upcoming books, I would gladly be your humble servant!

  • Made these and they are SO good! Easy and tasty!
