I have a coffee table with a really neat artistic welded metal underneath but an ugly top. I want to cast a transparent top, but use transparent colored resins within some of the layers. My question is:
Is it possible to cast the entire piece without any wood or fabric, or any type of reinforcement? I would like it to be as crystal clear as possible, but not worried about ripples. I would just like to see the details underneath the table if possible and avoid a lot of scratches on the surface.

@hollyrockets It sounds like you are trying to create a clear top suspended over welded art. If that is the case, you will need some way to hold the resin in place as it cures. On the issue of strength, the cured resin should be supported in some way. Finally, there is no way to prevent scratches, but they can be buffed out as they occur.
