YOUTUBE SUCKS SOMETIMES, SO I HAD TO UPLOAD THIS AGAIN AND ERASE ALL USER COMMENTS. THAT'S RIGHT YOU SUCK, FREE VIDEO SERVICE.

This video is made for a beginner, by a beginner. It quickly goes over the tuning, chords, timing, and strumming pattern to playing the ukulele part of Elephant Gun by Beirut. The song has five chords which loop throughout the entire song, so it's relatively easy to get started on.

The chords are A#m, D#7, G#, C#, and C#Major7. By tuning the ukulele one semi-note sharp on every string or using a capo, you can use the standard Am, D7, G, C, and CMajor7 positions.

For details on this video and playing this song on the ukulele, check out the entry at ukulala.com:

  • I'm new to ukulele and just have a question. When you're playing and you go from one chord to another, do you pause? Like for a split second giving you time to adjust your fingers. I'm just curious, cause if I constantly do the strumming loop I can't switch in time. This could also be cause I'm new and haven't gotten chord switches down fully. just checking.

    Thank you.

  • Hi SoSayI9,

Don't pause. The most important thing is to keep your strumming regular. Just switch chords as quick as you can (that will be very slow at first), and over time it will get easier and easier. the primary concern is keeping the rhythm corect though, because that will make it easier for other peopl to play along with you.

  • When playing the Am, hammer on the A string on the upstroke. Leave the A open on the down strum. That's how he gets the effect at the beginning of the video.

Zach Condon has a musical hardon for two things, hammer ons and mumbling lyrics.

  • Great vid!

  • Hey! It was very helpful! Thanks a bunch. I have a question though - I thought that Am is played without pressing the first string on the third fret. I am musically challenged, but I can hear the difference between playing it with and without the third fret. Are there two ways of playing it?

  • Would using a capo be a better option?

  • BEST EXPLINATION I HAVE FOUND OF THIS SONG! (: you made my life
