One tragic day when the ships in Menethil Harbor had gained the reputation of dumping their unsuspecting passengers into the ocean and sending them to a watery grave, our dear friend, Captain Placeholder, came to our rescue. He met us on the dock, more than willing to immediately and safely transport us to the farthest shores of the globe. We became accustomed to this convenience and thus Captain Placeholder earned a place in all our hearts.

Some time later when the ships were repaired, Captain Placeholder's mission had been fulfilled and he left our presence, never to be seen again.

Eledainn, Night Elf Priest of Graystar, penned this song, "The Lament of Captain Placeholder", so that we would never forget. This is my rendition of that great song. I dedicate this rendition to mariners everywhere.

I hope you enjoy!

For me, it died when MOP came out. Not because of content, but because I suddenly realized all my old friends were gone, and I was raiding in a guild where I didn't know anyone anymore.

You can blame nostalgia all you want and claim vanilla WoW was only great because we are all hipsters, but the truth of the fucking matter is that today; everyone’s just in a fucking rush. A rush to level up, a rush to gear up, rushing to complete daily quests and plow through heroics. Back in the days, people were more relaxed and incline to enjoy their time spent in the game rather than trying to complete everything at max speed.

Amen. Another reason is because the community was great. You were in touch with the people around you. Now you enter a guild and your just, yep. new guild. Nothing special. I remember laughing having fun on Skype with all my buddies. Logged on one day and they all dissappeared.

Before I used to think this song was just about captain P.. Now I like to think that its about the old days of life gone forever. Or maybe just the good old days of WoW haha.

''... and the community has changed.'' And for the worse. You were so much more connected to the people you played with/against in vanilla. You had your own rivalries with people of the opposite faction, you were really connected with your guild members, etc. Now... there's just no 'connection'. The community feels dead.

I'll agree with you there, I left not long before MoP came out, although at the moment I'm currently playing WoW again out of sheer boredom, playing in the same old guild just different people that I don't know so it doesn't feel the same and I guess I miss the old days of WoW.

Only if you where a casual, it's always been that way for people who where raiders in raiding guilds and played the game to raid. I started playing when TBC came out and stopped toward the end of WOTLK.

It isn't graphics or story-line which makes WoW so speciall. It is community. :)
