The Promised Land

On a rattlesnake speedway in the Utah desert
I pick up my money and head back into town
Driving cross the Waynesboro county line
I got the radio on and I'm just killing time
Working all day in my daddy's garage
Driving all night chasing some mirage
Pretty soon little girl I'm gonna take charge

CHORUS
The dogs on Main Street howl
'cause they understand
If I could take one moment into my hands
Mister I ain't a boy, no I'm a man
And I believe in a promised land

I've done my best to live the right way
I get up every morning and go to work each day
But your eyes go blind and your blood runs cold
Sometimes I feel so weak I just want to explode
Explode and tear this whole town apart
Take a knife and cut this pain from my heart
Find somebody itching for something to start

CHORUS

There's a dark cloud rising from the desert floor
I packed my bags and I'm heading straight into the storm
Gonna be a twister to blow everything down
That ain't got the faith to stand its ground
Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted

CHORUS

  • This is one of those songs you turn up as loud as those speakers will let me

  • I grew up not such just thinking Springstien was ok, then I realized how important he was to American musc he spoke for the poor working class unkowns who knew that their dreams were harder to come by than that of others, but as an American just as important, I woke up in the middle of the night after struggling through something and had to hear this song, it made me cry.

  • This song just sent shivers up my spine. I love it!

  • love this song!

  • great

  • @PrairieDon1021 check out the alternate version to this song if you can find it, believe it or not its even better, same lyrics but a slightly different pace and instruments altered slightly. Also check out Bruce's "the river" im sure you know about the obvious ones by now, but these are two gems that i love.

  • I cant find the newer alternate version of this song! dang it and my cd broke

  • @celticqueen0206 ahhhhhhhhhhhhh yess.... "Springstien"..........

  • I'm 15 and i love this song. I don't care what anyone says i have an old soul and i was born in the wrong generation.

  • @PrairieDon1021 Dude! He has so many other great songs like this. I'm only 23 as well but have been an avid Bruce fan ever since I was a kid thanks to my dad. I love all of his albums and if you like this song like I do then Im sure you'll enjoy the rest of his albums as well (and if you don't at first then you will once you warm up to them). Seek out his greatest hits collection. That's the best way to start. Some great albums of his include The River, Magic, Darkness on The Edge of Town...

  • @PrairieDon1021 Springsteen: I recommend "The River", Thunder Road", "Down-bound Train", "Kitty's Back", "Workin' on the Highway" , No Surrender", My Hometown".

  • one of the best!
