It is called Dune du Pyla and is on the coast just a kilometer away from the city of Arcachon, France. It is quite impressive at 3km long and over 100 meters high. One needs the ladder for the steep side, but the other side is more sloping and leads to a remote beach. There are lots of bike trails and one can take a ferry from Arcachon to Cap Ferret. It is quite pretty in June with the unique combination of pines, wild flowers, large dune and sea views.

That looks like fun. I want to slide down the dune.
if you make it to Japan check out the local rail pass, like the JR East pass or JR West. Cheaper than the national pass if you're exploring one area.
And your bank card doesn't work in the local ATMs. Use the one at CitiBank or the post office. They'll take American cards.
I wish I could travel like this. It looks so interesting.

Fabulous!! My parents went here when my mom was expecting me, so I can say that I've "sort of" been there! Actually, I've never made it to the dune in person - looks like a fascinating place and I can imagine the climb is quite a workout!!
Cheers,
Chantal

@tuppulla Glad to see your comment, Lisa! ;)
She is growing fast, she is 8 in this video, but now she is 9! Yikes! My broken arm has slowed us down a bit, but we are almost healed and ready to hit the road again! This year circumventing the entire globe. Happy to share!

Has her accent changed all all from all the influence of the places you have traveled?
pillowiswako 1 year ago
@pillowiswako Good question. I suppose it has & sometimes she does say things like the English way instead of an American, writes & eats like a European ( they use silverware in a different way than U.S.) ...but just like her growing, it is hard for us to see it. I suppose it is quite subtle as people don't notice it much at home either when we visit.

Nice video! =) Sand dunes sure are tough to climb but so fun to run down! Have you ever been to Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan? Absolutely gorgeous area. Hope you've all been enjoying Spring!

@kaitfaery Thanks...they are fun! I was born in Michigan, but haven't been to the Sleeping Bear Dunes there, sounds fun. Spring is gorgeous here in Spain, so we are loving it!
