Don't forget to rate my clip! In 1978, the 12 part series based on James Michener's novel was a big hit. The amazing television drama starred Chief Dan George, Robert Conrad, Richard Chamberlain, Lynn Redgrave, Sharon Gless, Timothy Dalton, Barbara Carrera, Robert Vaughn, Brian Keith, Raymond Burr, Richard Crenna, David Janssen, Donald Pleasence, Dennis Weaver and Alex Karras, among many others. The wonderful music was by John Addison.

  • Centennial; Only the finest piece of work ever to appear on television.

  • Rest in peace, Lynn Redgrave (Charlotte Seccombe/Charlotte Lloyd)! She passed away on May 2, 2010 at age 67 from breast cancer.

  • By far the most beautiful series i`ve ever saw.

I was a young kid, and every fridaynight i hàd to watch this series.

Pasquinel and McKeag were my heroes in that time.

    Amazing television.

  • @MrSuperneil05 Not true. The cowboys in Centennial aren't villains; R.J. Poteat and Jim Lloyd are both heroes, and the other cowboys are mostly good folks. The villainous Oliver Seccombe isn't a cowboy, he's just a ranch owner who's never punched cattle in his life. The series also accurately shows that many of the cowboys were black or Mexican (about 2/7 of them historically).

  • This was prime time, BBC 1 Spring of '79. You had to watch it.

  • so the show does exist!, i have vague memories of this as a child. all i remember was the title and that the opening credits seemed to go on forever!. now ive found it i can rest at last..... by the way great show, dont know what it would cost to make it now?

  • @lebbing64 Imagine the networks producing a mini series like this today or any mini series. With dumbed down TV and attention spans... hmmm

  • I actually got a beta tape with the #9 part of the mini-series when it first aired (it even had the original commercials ... it was taped by actor George Pentecost who had a small role in it) ... Brian Keith was awesome

  • Bought the dvd two years ago. got goosebumps as soon as this music started, waited so long to see this great miniseries again, really enjoy sharing this dvd with friends and family.

  • This intro is just epic!

  • I remember the epic series well it was an absolute classic and did not glorify the arch typical cowboy as the hero but presented him as the villain and in fact as I recall the programme was highly reccomended by the national geographic magazine. Robert Conrad and Stephen MacHattie were my favourite characters.
