Outside of tactical RPGs with the grid, the Phantasy Star series is the only RPG I like.

The translation on my copy is different from yours... what's up with that?? What version are you playing?

Someone made a romhack of this changing all the character parameters; it was huge fun.
Also, Rolf Landale is my video game equivalent of Chuck Norris. Yes, I know it's groan-worthy to say that, but that's my view of Rolf Landurp.

I watched all of Steiger Adam let's play and now I will watch yours ! Making this game my bitch will be my next goal in life.

I use to watch my mom play this when i was six, now Im 28. brought the 360 genesis collection now Im giving it a try :) and I have to say my good sir it is a pain to play. I mean geez! u learn new spells and buy items theres NO description for what they do, u have to use em to find out what they do. 2 the continues battles, 3 the layout of dungeons awlays hitting deadends aint fun :P

ur funny

It's very hard? Thanks. I just downloaded it to my Wii. :|

you only have to grind levels and meseta if you're using the walkthrough. if you learn your way through each dungeon you should have more money than you need.

One of the best RPG's ever, so time consuming and fun!

@AzureMage253 the only square game that i ever liked was FF6 (or 3 if you're in the US ?)
This is one of my favorite RPGs ever, but by NO means is it one of the hardest. Play Wizardry: Return of Werdna.
That's hard. It actively hates you.
PS2 isn't hard outside of some tricky mazes. Just has some of the standard 8-16 bit level grind that most JRPGs of the day required.

I think it's a good deal more difficult than FF1, which is one of the reasons I'm sticking with it.
And, quite frankly, non-Square games get almost zero respect for what they are--games that are so good as to test one's patience. Don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan of Square games, but their recent rehashes have taken great games and turned them into utter BS. I'm sorry, but adding pointless sidequests and making new villains out of nothing just doesn't work for me.

Isn't Phantasy Star available on Virtual Console? If so, is it worth getting? I'm always in the mood for a good RPG.

The Phantasy Star series itself is worth it if you're into sci-fantasy games. PS II is a *good* game for hardcore players because of its brutality. No blood, mind you. It's HARD!

I may look into getting the first one then. Not that I don't like a good challenge, but because I don't like having to push my patience to the limit to do something such as level up and whatnot. The Final Fantasy games are cool (I just started playing 1 and 2 on Final Fantasy Origins and the DS remake of 4 for the first time recently), but I hate how hours of leveling up is mandatory in the series. Harder than Mario RPGs and Pokemon, which was what I was used to.

You may very well enjoy PS IV if you're into simplicity. It's at the end of the Algol canon, but is easy to pick up and play. It's not on the VC, but again, the Genesis Collection has that in addition to II and III. PS I can be had on the GBA's "Phantasy Star Collection". As I recall, PS I is an intense dungeon crawler, so find a map if you want out alive.
